This article continues our efforts
to analyze world best horses by scrutinizing winners of world
Group/Grade 1 races. First such
article appeared on PedigreePost site, in February 2002.
Horses analyzed in that articles were winners of Group/Grade
1 races in countries accepted by the International
Cataloguing Standards Commitee: Argentina, Australia,
Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland,
Italy, New Zealand, United States of America, Hong Kong,
United Arab Emirates. I've included in that list G1 races in
Japan accepted by Japan Association for International Horse
Races, because of it's quality. Also, because of lack of
data, in that first article, horses from Chile, Peru, South
Africa were excluded. In this
second article of that kind, all Group/Grade 1 winner in
countries accepted by the International Cataloguing
Standards Commitee are included, again with added winners of
G1 races in Japan, accepted by Japan Association for
International Horse Races. Races
Horses The total
number of analysed G1 races is 448. There are 349 different
winners of these races. Horses with greatest number of wins
are:
Sires and Broodmare Sires These 349 horses were sired by 200 different sires and 215 broodmare sires. Sires with greatest number of winners (more than 3) are:
Dual serving Danehill (Danzig) is again first on the sire list with 10 individual winners, the same number as last year, but this time he had more winners from Northern Hemisphere. But this time he is not alone, as Sadler’s Wells has same number of G1 winners, but all on Northern Hemisphere. Foundation Sires The situation in regards to preserving the Byerley Turk and Godolphin Arabian sire lines is still pretty grim. The following table shows that less than 4% of the world's top horses are from these two sirelines.
Modern Sirelines Taking a step ahead, and looking at more recent branches of the dominant Darley Arabian sireline there is evident dominance of the Northern Dancer sireline with more than one third of all G1 winners sired by his descendants.
Female families Distribution of G1 winners according to the Bruce Lowe's female families is following:
Family #1 is
still family with greatest number of G1 winners – 44 Sire and Dam Age We've also analyzed age of sire and mare at the year of foaling. The results are given in following table:
